postheadericon History

This association was founded in 1977 as the International Society for Artificial Organs (ISAO).  In 2003 it was decided to transition beginning January 1st, 2004 from a Society based on individual members into the International Federation for Artificial Organs (IFAO).

The IFAO is based on Societies as members, with 3 founding member societies, the American Society for Artificial Organs (ASAIO), the European Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO) and the Japanese Society for Artificial Organs (JSAO).d

In 2008 the IFAO moved its website from the prior society-based isao-society.org to a new website (http://www.ifao-society.org) that reflected the organization’s move to a federation.  And then in July of 2010, the Federation acquired the IFAO.org domain name, and established its new website here, with ambitious new goals from the latest international meeting.
